What is a Ripwave Modem?
A Ripwave Modem is a wireless modem. Traditional dial-up modems and xDSL modems provide online access through the public telephone lines. A cable modem provides high-speed Internet access through a cable television network. A Ripwave does not require either. We get the high-speed internet to you wirelessly, anytime, anywhere in our coverage area.

The Ripwave Modem is the point of connection to the UnplugUSA Network and provides portable, anytime, anywhere Internet access. With its small size, blazingly fast data speeds, and a zero-install, plug-and-play proposition, the Ripwave Modem completely changes broadband access forever. With the Ripwave, there is no need to send technicians to climb the roof, no holes to drill, no computers to be opened up and no installation required. The unit connects to the computer via USB or Ethernet port. The Ripwave Modem is the ideal mechanism to deliver broadband access to your home.

Ripwave key features include:
Zero-install, plug-and-play ease of use
Portable, battery-powered operation for Internet access anytime, anywhere
Broadband data rates, which deliver voice, real-time video and audio streaming - all at the speed of thought
Multi-service queuing to deliver differentiated service
USB and Ethernet versions
Over-the-air upgrades and features

Why would I want a Ripwave Modem?
The main reason is speed. Wahbits can offer download speeds from the Internet in excess of 1 mbps, at least 20 times as fast as a traditional telephone modem. Web pages that take minutes to load with a dial-up connection, but pop up instantly with a Ripwave Modem. If you frequently download large files, such as video clips, audio clips or software, Ripwave Modems will make life much easier.

The second reason is "always-on" portability. With a Ripwave, there's no need to plug in to an Internet service provider (ISP) using cable or telephone lines. Simply click on your browser and you're on the Internet. No more waiting, no more busy signals, all you need is power.

How does a Ripwave Modem work?
Our wireless system was designed from military non-line-of-sight wireless technology. Simply connect the modem to your PC through a standard Ethernet interface. Our Ripwave will then get the Internet from the air! It connects to our wireless network through a wireless link that can bounce off of buildings and go through walls to deliver Internet to your location regardless of cable or telephone lines!

How fast are Ripwave Modem connections?
You hear all the time about 11Mb 802.11 wireless access points or the
54Mb A and G. In actuality, 802.11b data rates are less than 5 Mbps at up to 100 feet indoors with omni antenna. 802.11a data rates are less than 15 Mbps at up to 60 feet indoors with omni antenna. 802.11g data rates are less than 15 Mbps at up to 100 feet indoors with omni antenna. All of these wireless access points are only as fast as the Internet connection they are “plugged” in to. A Ripwave is capable of bursting to more than 1.2Mb similar to a T1 line business use.

What does "portable" mean?
It means that the Ripwave is continuously connected to the Internet whenever your computer is turned on. If you want to take your laptop to your friend’s house, to the restaurant, or to a park, you can be connected to the Internet. All you need is power anywhere in our covered service areas. Get a battery pack for the Ripwave and go totally portable.

Are Ripwave connections secure?
Our wireless network uses proprietary wireless communication protocols. These radio waves are undetectable by run of the mill wireless access points hackers use to get into Wireless networks. Our systems will only allow our modems to communicate on the network after they go through a security check on our wireless base stations.

The one area of vulnerability for cable, xDSL and wireless modems is tied to the network settings for file and print sharing options on your Windows or Macintosh computers. To keep hackers out of your files, be sure to disable those settings before connecting your PC to the Internet. If you plan to use those functions, install a router or Internet-sharing device with a firewall between the Ripwave and your local area network (LAN).

What Protocol does Ripwave Use?
